3 tips to make your bathroom look new on the cheap
You can give a tired old bathroom a whole new look without spending very much money or time. There are lots of creative ideas to implement: repurposing old items that look attractive in a bathroom, simple renovations, etc.
Color
New paint on the walls is a quick, cheap and easy DIY way to change your bathroom’s look dramatically. This is very simple and affordable. Just get a main color for the walls and another color (usually white or off-white) for trim like the door jamb. If you’ve never painted before, go to a paint store and they’ll advise on on tricks and tips to make it look like a professional did it.
Light
Unless your bathroom is already brightly lit, adding some light to it is a great way to make it look new. If you need more bulbs, a new fixture that holds more bulbs doesn’t have to cost much and shouldn’t be difficult to install. You may also just need a new fixture that lets more light through. I recommend compact fluorescent bulbs: they’ve really changed in the last few years so that it is possible to see what color your skin and makeup really is in a fluorescent-lit bathroom. That way, you’re not paying more for that extra light.
More storage
If you need more storage space, check out free-standing bathroom cabinet like the Savannah Space Saver from Stacks and Stacks. There are also similar cabinets that have to be installed on the wall, so if that’s an option for you, you’ll have more to choose from.
A plastic storage drawer can also help you get bathroom clutter out of the way for next to nothing. These don’t look so beautiful, but you can tuck them out of the way. You can also set a cutting board on top of them and put some candles or other decorative objects on it to disguise them. And they definitely look better than clutter on the counters.
