Desk chairs with casters roll better on mats
If you have a home office with carpeting, you probably already know that desk chairs with casters don’t roll around so well on carpet. And yet those plastic mats they sell at office supply stores are just so ugly. What can you do?
Bamboo chair mats to the rescue! These give you a very smooth rolling surface. This particular one is coated with UV so it resists scuffs. They come in a variety of wood shades so you can compliment your decor.
Bamboo is also incredibly renewable, making it a better choice for the environment, compared to a plastic mat or a mat made from another type of wood. Most bamboo mats are made out of many slender slats glued together so they can be rolled up for easy transport. There’s also a “tri-fold” option available from some manufacturers – these fold into a small square for transport.
These have felt backing, which works with any type of flooring. They also look nice, roll up easily for portability, and are made from a renewable material (unlike the plastic ones linked above). The manufacturer recommends not using it with chairs that have metal casters – I’ve never seen an office chair with anything but plastic casters, but if you have metal, then go with the plastic ones.
