Hang up your shoes

Running out of floor space in the closet for your shoes? Moving to a place with a bigger closet is not your only option. Nor must you make due with one of those boxes that slide under the bed, that you have to drag out and open up every time you think there might be a pair of shoes in it that you want.

Another really clever option is to get one or more of those hanging shoe shelves that attach to the hanger bar in your closet. These are pretty inexpensive (the one pictured here is $18.99 at the time of this writing). You suspend them from your clothing rack by the two hangers at the top, and it gives you ten little front-facing cubbyholes for storing shoes (if some of them are flat, skinny sandals, you may be able to hang more than 10 pairs).

This is also a good tool if you’re like me and tend to throw your shoes into the floor instead of arranging them neatly so they don’t get scuffed and worn. Having a space for each pair of shoes (yeah, you may need more than one of these) can encourage you to put them away neatly.

The only thing they won’t hold is stiff boots, but at least with 10 pairs of shoes up and out of the way, you’ll have plenty of room in the floor for your boots.
