Walnut Sofa or Hall Table for $89
Whether you call it a sofa table, hall table or foyer table, the nice thing about a tallish, narrow table is that it can really help declutter your home. You take an empty piece of floor, stick one of these tables on it, and without any sense of it cluttering the room, the table gives you room to shelve a row or two of books or arrange a collection of knicknacks in a way that looks clean and tasteful.
The Walnut Hall Table from Shop.com is a very inexpensive example of what I’m talking about. Between its two shelves, it could hold quite a few books (standing up between bookends or artfully arranged into stacks), a dish to drop your keys in when you first walk through the door, a mail sorter, a jewelry case, a wicker basket for recyclable paper, etc. A table like this can fit into a foyer, hallway, living room, staircase landing, bedroom or kitchen nook. And it can squeeze in behind furniture (hence the term “sofa table”). Once you start looking around your home, you realize there are a lot of places a table like this can fit.
Of course, this particular table might not be to your taste, but I chose it because it’s a simple, classic design that blends with many decor styles, and you can dress it up easily with a runner. They also make half-moon shaped hall tables and other variations that (generally) don’t give you as much storage for the footprint. But if you have the room, those are lovely too!
